Deindexed Search Listings

Today I was analyzing some search results using Google. I noticed the domain name deindexed.com was listed first in google when searching deindexed adsense, and reversed adsense deindexed. The page that is listed in serps is a tagged result page linked from the tagged text under some posts with the term adsense. I do not have a nofollow for these links. Should the results would not be considered duplicate content?

Keywords, and phrases, that are currently listed high on Google for deindexed.com using tags:

  • deindexed adsense
  • adsense deindexed
  • deindexed using adsense
  • deindexed by adsense
  • pages deindexed by adsense
  • adsense deindexing pages

I am sure there exists many more top positions for the seo post I am analyzing.

The question I propose to myself, should I be happy with any listing, especially a first position listing?

Should I add the nofollow for these tags since they are really for a tag cloud?

Should the the pages linked from keyword rich anchor text be considered duplicate pages?

Are the result pages informative? Yes. Are the result pages relevant to the anchor text? Yes again.

Adding tags with anchor text have many purposes, the main reason webmasters say they use them is to make their sites easier to follow. For their readers to find related content. I do not agree, I see webmasters doing it all over the internet on their blogs, sites, and shopping carts. It is a form of keyword stuffing that seems for the moment to be ethical in nature. A decent way to add keywords and density to posts or pages. OK now, see, I admit that I am guilty also for now. These tags add a link to a post you have created, content ready. The page now has an anchor text phrase pointing to itself. This link is considered a permalink. Should this be considered spamming? should webmasters consider using tags for all their posts? Should webmasters and designers include tag clouds on all their new projects?

Over the years I have used tags, or links with good keywords to link to importand pages with great results. The type of tags I am now writing about are a bit different, they produce a new page with a different url, with the same content as the original post. I would like to know other webmasters thoughts. I will be adding nofollow to these tags. The anchor text will still be used for the pages and the keywords added to the page or posts, but no pagerank will be past in Googles serps.

One thing to keep in mind, the pages are result pages showing excerps from all posts and pages that have the same tag, so maybe the content is not duplicate, but only similar?

I do believe this using tags has only a positive effect for listings in Yahoo and MSN.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts, Deindexed SEO.

I have really just started using tags, and am pretty inconsistent with them at that.
When I do use them, I try not to go over 2 or 3 tags. I have seen some sites that as you say, stuff them in there. One site which I won’t name, which was a sort of local search site, had a free wp blog, where 25 town names were used as tags. The content of the blog post was only about half as much as the tags.

I was going to sign up for email updates and you don’t have the option to receive email updates enabled.
I love the Feed widget in the comment box though…great feature.

I agree with you Adam. Stuffing keywords, by abusing tags, may give a site a brief moment of glory at the top of search results, maybe even a spike in traffic, but in the end the site or pages will probably get deindexed for not following ethical seo guidelines.

I do need to add the email update feature. Thanks for the reminder.
